FEMA and SBA Deadline: OKLAHOMA CITY May 10-13 tornadoes
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Only three days remain for survivors of the May 10-13 tornadoes and storms to register for Individual Assistance from the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Friday, July 23, is the registration deadline.
"The deadline to register is almost here," said Federal Coordinating Officer Gregory W. Eaton. "We want storm survivors to receive every dollar they are eligible for, but they have to register first."Oklahomans in Carter, Cleveland, Creek, Garvin, McIntosh, Okfuskee, Oklahoma, Pottawatomie and Seminole counties can register by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for people with hearing or speech impairments. Phone lines are open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Help is available in all languages.
Survivors can also register for assistance online by visiting www.DisasterAssistance.gov. And for the first time, users of smart phones and other mobile devices can register for assistance when they visit m.fema.gov.
Hundreds of Oklahomans have applied for assistance, and nearly $7.5 million in state and federal assistance has been made available to families, individuals and businesses.
"Even if you're not sure now whether you need or want assistance, go ahead and register," said State Coordinating Officer Fred W. Liebe. "You might change your mind later."
July 23 also is the last day to apply for low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
Disaster loans up to $200,000 are available to qualified homeowners to repair or replace real estate while qualified business owners and nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million. Homeowners and renters may be eligible for up to $40,000 to repair/replace personal property.
The SBA loan application also can lead to further assistance. If the SBA is unable to approve a loan, the applicant may be referred back to FEMA for other disaster aid. For more information on disaster loans, survivors may call the SBA Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955 or TTY 1-800-877-8339 for those with hearing and speech impairments.
For more information on Oklahoma disaster recovery, click www.fema.gov/Oklahoma or visit the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) site at www.oem.ok.gov.
Disaster recovery assistance is available without regard to race, color, religion, nationality, sex, age, disability, English proficiency or economic status. If you or someone you know has been discriminated against, call FEMA toll-free at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). For TTY call 800-462-7585.
The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) prepares for, responds to, recovers from and mitigates against emergencies and disasters. The department delivers service to Oklahoma cities, towns and counties through a network of more than 350 local emergency managers.
FEMA's mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
The U.S Small Business Administration (SBA) is the federal government's primary source of money for the long-term rebuilding of disaster-damaged private property. SBA helps homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private, non-profit organizations fund repairs or rebuilding efforts, and covers the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property.
These disaster loans cover uninsured and uncompensated losses and do not duplicate benefits of other agencies or organizations. For information about SBA programs, applicants may call the Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955 (TTY 1-800-877-8339).

Traffic will be diverted from the area of the Canal Fest beginning at approximately 1:00 PM on FRIDAY, July 16, thru Sunday, July 25, 2010. Riders into and out of the Tonawandas should be standing at the posted bus stop at the driveway of Walgreens not at the actual corner. In most cases bus stops in the area are actually on street corners in this case, this does not apply.

and their Dayside Dispatchers for their assistance on this.
When Current Events Change and possibly change your life:
Canal Fest 2010 is underway and as some may have noticed the Tonawanda Transfer Station located on Niagara Street (Between McDonalds and HSBC Bank) is closed due to the rides being set up and part of the food court. So, how does the NFTA Communicate the route change? There was a short blurb on their website:
"The Canal Fest will commence Sunday, July 18, 2010 at approximately 12:00 noon on Niagara Street., between Seymour and Main Street, and on Young Street between Main and Delaware. Traffic will be diverted from the area of the Canal Fest beginning at approximately 1:00 PM on FRIDAY, July 16, thru Sunday, July 25, 2010. When Niagara Street is closed to traffic, 20-Elmwood, 25-Delaware, 56-River Road and 61-Express - North Tonawanda service and 200 North Tonawanda/Wheatfield Shuttle will be rerouted as follows:
20 “T” - Elmwood
INBOUND | Regular route to River Road and Niagara Continue Seymour, right Broad and regular route. |
OUTBOUND | Regular route to Broad and Seymour, left Seymour, right Goundry and continue regular route. |
20 “C” - Delaware
INBOUND | Leave Layover on Broad, left William, left Morgan, right Delaware and continue regular route. |
OUTBOUND | Regular route to Delaware and Broad, left Broad, layover at bus stop on Broad. |
Normally there are white and red RIDER ALERTS posted on affected routes. This was not the case this past week."

Monday Morning Traffic Summary
Good Monday Monday Morning Everyone (Quickly Dodging a coffee Cup). Well, the drive in to work so far is decent, approximately 71 degrees out and the sun is just rising behind some very light clouds.
From where I am currently sitting, on the Patio at McDonalds on Niagara Falls Blvb at Maple, (Next to Delta Sonic and the Boulevard Mall). The traffic is light and moving well, The construction on Maple is coming along well, as we can see one of the two lanes, the (Westbound) has been resurfaced.
SCRATCHING THE SURFACE
Currently in Tonawanda, NY resurfacing is being completed on Clinton Street from nearly Niagara Street (Near Tops) around Clinton Park and past Fletcher to Hill Street (think Tonawanda Dome Restaurant) area.
LOW CLEARANCE AND LIGHT LOADS
For those who did not already know, there is a new weight limit of 5 Tons on Young Street as you bear right to access Young you will see the sign. Local deliveries are acceptable but truckers should be mindful of the low railroad bridge that usually gets hit once or twice each summer.
TWO WAY STREET - HAVE IT YOUR WAY
Morgan Street between Delaware and Young is now two way traffic now. Burger King must have gotten sick of drivers cutting through their parking lot to cross over from Delaware to get onto Main or Seymour.
That's just a presumption.
34 A Metro Bud for Audubon just past and is on time.
Current time is 7AM - have a great morning everyone.

Foggy Morning to Clear for Afternoon Sun and Fun
(Live from Niagara Falls Blvb and Military Road, Niagara Falls:) Good Morning from Motioncenter - This morning the major traffic issue is clear - well, not so much - Spotty Heavy Dense Fog currently exists on River Road in Niagara County, Near North Tonawanda and along Niagara Falls Blvb. heading north. This also effects the Grand Island bridges, in a few hours the fog should burn off and offer us a completely beautiful day for the second day of the Taste of Buffalo.
Keep in mind that parking may be at a premium in downtown Buffalo this morning as Elmwood Avenue is closed at West Chippewa, which was very active last night as a healthy group of people from across Western New York enjoyed the cool and clear night last night.

Weather Alert: Heat: As the heat goes up - Bring your costs Down
(Buffalo, NY) – Motioncenter.info:
(Second of a Series)
Yesterday, Motion Center.info offered links to resources to help keep your pets, driving and health safe during the current 90+ weather we have been having throughout the Western New York Region.
As we move into the second full day of a recent heat wave since Independence Day, Montioncenter.info is offering some important and money saving ideas that may result in more some money and energy savings
A. Turn off the Air Conditioner: This doesn’t mean that you have to melt into a puddle in your home or apartment. Many air conditions have a thermostat setting. This setting allows automated management of the temperature. This allows for efficient cooling of your living space while offering money savings.
B. Turn on the Air Conditioner: Living near Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, we have the opportunity to use a natural air conditioner while spending time outside and with others.
C. Replace air conditioner filters; over time these filters may become clogged and decrease your conditioner’s efficiency.
D. Turn off the lights. During the summer, it is a well known fact that daylight hours are at a maximum, but some continue to turn lights on, or leave lights on. Excessive accent lighting and security lighting can add up over time and cause a higher energy bill. Using LED lighting, candles, wind-up and battery powered radios, can reduce your power bills to an amazing amount.
E. Planning ahead for your end of season landscaping needs, including plants possible major purchases resulting in tax deductions, including koy ponds and water fixtures can add to a otherwise blah space and be a very small investment.
F. Money saving, single bill, multi-play, combined, everything on one bill, TV – internet – phone packages, are they really worth it? Maybe not. It all depends on your individual use of the products and your lifestyle. If you plan to spend a lot of time in your apartment watching television and speaking on the phone then maybe it is a good idea, otherwise you may want to consider a HP laptop with a Wi-Fi antenna on-board and a cheap laptop or VIOP. You may enjoy the freedom of mobility, the computing power or a full laptop with free internet access. The money you save with these options can place money in your pocket that is better spent on your next trip through downtown on a weekend night, or on a trip through the Niagara Wine Trail.
G. Keep to a budget and understand what are the real items that are mandatory, usually rent, car insurance, any legal fees you may have (parking tickets, speeding tickets etc.) are normally the only costs that are not negotiable.
Have a great and safe summer. The more you think outside the box, the more money you can save, meaning you gain more wealth to use on your terms. When you live on your own terms, you are that much freer.

Heat, Your Pets, Driving and You
Okay, So Who's the Copycat?
(Buffalo, NY) With the region's current and early in season heat wave motion center is offering links to Hot Weather Safety related information, to keep yourself and your furry friends safe.
Heat and Safety for pets:
Health Related:
Centers for Desease Control offer the following suggestions and information during peak heat periods:
"Extreme Heat•People suffer heat-related illness when their bodies are unable to properly cool themselves. Very high body temperatures may damage the brain or other vital organs. Older adults, young children, and persons with chronic medical conditions are particularly susceptible to these illnesses and are at high risk for heat-related death.
•Temperatures that hover 10 degrees or more above the average high temperature for the region and last for several weeks are defined as extreme heat. When temperatures are extremely high, take steps to protect yourself and your loved ones:
◦Drink more fluids (nonalcoholic), regardless of your activity level.
◦Stay indoors and, if at all possible, stay in an air-conditioned place. If you do not have air conditioning, visit a shopping mall or public library for a few hours or call your local health department to find any heat-relief shelters in your area.
◦Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
◦NEVER leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle.
◦Visit adults at risk at least twice a day and closely watch them for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke"
