Border Patrol Agents Recover Stolen Vehicle used for Marijuana Smuggling

(Wednesday, June 01, 2011)

Tucson, Ariz. – Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Ajo station seized 1,750 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $875,000 in the West Desert yesterday.

The Ajo Station All Terrain Vehicle Unit was patrolling in a remote area northeast of the Lukeville Port in Arizona when they observed vehicle tire tracks in the desert. Agents followed the tire tracks to an abandoned pick-up truck that was carrying 80 bundles of marijuana weighing 1,750 pounds. A records check revealed the truck had been reported stolen out of Peoria, Ariz. The marijuana and truck were seized and transported to the Ajo Station for processing.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
